Anyone who wants to run a motor vehicle on the road, need to obtain a valid Indian Driving License card. There are several stages to obtain a Driving license in India. Why you need a Valid Driving License in India?

India is a democratic country. Everyone has the democratic rights to move freely in any part of the country. But Indian law doesn’t allow you to ride any type of motor vehicle without any permission.

As per the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, any Individual person is not allowed to drive or run any type of Motor vehicle without a valid Driving License. If you do so without a valid licence card, then you will be punished with Rs.5000/- traffic fine.

Nowadays the Driving license is very important for riding a vehicle on any road. After the approval of the Motor Vehicle act 2019, it is 100% necessary for a common man to ride any two-wheeler or four-wheeler with a valid license.

According to the Motor Vehicle Act, No person shall drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds an effective driving licence issued to him authorizing him to drive the vehicle.

Hence, it is mandatory for all to obtain a valid Drivers license before riding any type of vehicle like bike, car, truck, bus, Scooter, etc.

Now the question arises, who issues the Driving Licence in India. Here, you should know that in India you will get the Indian Union Driving Licence. This is valid all over the Indian states. It is issued by the Regional Transport Office formally known as the RTO office. The regional transport Authority issues the Driving Licence in India.

Documents Required to Apply for a Driving License

  1. Address Proof (Aadhaar card, Voter ID, Passport, Ration card, etc)
  2. Age Proof (Matriculation Certificate, Aadhar Card, PAN card, Passport, etc)

Different Stages to Apply a Physical DL

In every state in India, you have to go through the following 10 Stages to get your Physical Driving License. Just follow the following procedure to apply for your driving license at the lowest cost.

Stage-1: Apply Learning License (LL) online

This is the initial stage of the Driving Licence Application. In this stage firstly, you have to Visit the Sarathi official portal and click on the Apply for New LL. Fill all required details. Upload all the required documents like Aadhaar Card, Form 1(A) (Medical Fitness certificate), Form 16, etc. Before submitting the application, just upload your recent passport size Photograph and Signature scan copy.

After filling the application form, pay the LL application fee as mentioned in the Sarathi Portal.

Once you pay the application fee just navigate to the Learning License Slot booking section. Enter your Application number followed by the date of Birth. Book your online LL test slot as per the availability.

Next, take a print out of the LL Application form. Reach the specified RTO office in time with good preparation. There verify your original Documents and appear the LL test.

Once you will qualify for the online LL test, your initial Learning Licence card will be issued by the RTO.

Stage-2: Apply Driving Test

The Driving test appearance is the second and final stage of getting Driving Licence. After getting Learning Licence, you have to wait atleast 1 month for DL slot booking. After that, you simply visit the official Sarathi Website by using the specified link. Select your preferred State. Then navigate to the DL Apply form.

In the DL Apply form, upload the soft copy of your Learning License. Pay the Applucation fee as per your Moto Vehicle class.

Finally, book the slot for the Driving Test examination.

Take a printout of the DL Application form and visit the Regionla RTO office with your Vehicle. There submit the original documents along with the DL Application form.

When the RTA will ask you for the test drive, complete the Driving Test. Once you will qualify the test, you will receive the Driving Licence number in your E-mail ID.

After 1-2 week, you will receive the Physical Driving License card through Indian Postal Courier.

Guide to Apply for a Driving Licence

  1. First of all, visit the official Driving License website of the central Government https://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in/
  2. Now select your state’s RTO where you can appear on your test drive. 
     

    Sarathi Paribahana Portal;

  3. In the left-side menu on the next page, click on “New Learning License”. New LL Apply Form
     
  4. Now you will get some steps and instructions regarding the new DL and click on Continue.
  5. If you are a new applicant then just Click on the Submit Button or choose as per your application. New DL Apply
     
  6. Now the main application form will appear and here you have to select your state and RTO office.
  7. Fill in all the rest information such as Your first name, Last name, Father’s Name, Date of Birth, Blood Group, Qualification, and Mobile Number in the Personal details section. New LL Apply Application form

  9. In the final step of the LL application, select your vehicle type and click on the arrow as shown in the application. You can select multiple vehicle types.

  11. Now on the next page, you will be provided a receipt with a barcode and Application number that you need to make a Print Out copy. 
     
  12. Now click on the Next button and you will be redirected to the Payment page.
  13. Just click the “Proceed” button.

  14. Now just Pay the amount Rs.200/ DL by using a Debit card or Credit Card/ Net Banking.

  16. Now you have to Select the LL test slot as per the availability at your RTO office.
  17. Next, you have to visit your RTO office at the selected time slot with the Uploaded Document’s original and Photocopy. New DL Application with Barcode

  19. After qualifying for the test you will be given a Learning License.
  20. After completion of 1-Month of LL, you have to again visit the RTO official website.
  21. Click on the Driving Licence Apply link.
